Frequently asked questions about dental implants

How much do dental implants cost in Droylsden?

At Walmsley Dental, a single dental implant including the crown starts from £2,750. Bone grafting, sinus lifts and other complex steps are quoted separately if needed. We provide a fixed written quote after your initial consultation and CBCT scan. Patient finance is available, including 0% interest options for treatment plans over £1,000 (subject to status).

How long does dental implant treatment take?

Most single-implant cases take 4–6 months from start to finish. The implant is placed in a single appointment under local anaesthetic, then we allow 3–4 months for the implant to integrate with your jawbone. The custom porcelain crown is fitted at a final appointment. Same-day teeth and All-on-4 cases follow a different timeline — we’ll explain at consultation.

Is dental implant placement painful?

The procedure itself is carried out under local anaesthetic, so you should feel no pain during placement — only mild pressure. Most patients describe the experience as no worse than a regular extraction. Mild discomfort and swelling for 2–3 days afterwards is normal and is well-controlled with over-the-counter pain relief such as ibuprofen.

How long do dental implants last?

With good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, dental implants are a long-term tooth replacement option — typically 20+ years for the implant itself. The crown attached to the implant may need replacement after 10–15 years due to normal wear. The single biggest factor in implant longevity is gum health, which is why we include hygiene appointments in every implant treatment plan.

Am I a suitable candidate for a dental implant?

Most healthy adults with sufficient jawbone can have implants. We assess suitability with a full clinical examination, intraoral photographs and a CBCT (3D) scan, which shows your bone height, bone density and proximity to nerves and sinuses. Smokers, uncontrolled diabetics, and patients on certain bone-density medications need extra discussion — we’ll cover this at your consultation.

What’s the difference between an implant, a bridge and a denture?

A dental implant replaces a missing tooth root with a titanium screw integrated into your jawbone, topped with a crown that looks and feels like your natural tooth. A bridge uses the teeth either side of the gap as anchors. A denture is removable. Implants are the only option that preserves the bone where your tooth used to be — bridges and dentures both lead to bone shrinkage over time.

Do you offer All-on-4 and All-on-6 implants in Manchester?

Yes. We offer All-on-4 from £10,000 per arch and All-on-6 from £12,000 per arch for patients missing all of their upper or lower teeth, or those facing imminent loss of all their teeth. The technique gives patients a fixed full set of teeth secured on either four or six implants per arch — often delivered in a single visit. We confirm the right approach for your case at consultation.

Can I get finance for dental implants?

Yes. We offer 0% interest finance over 12 months and longer-term plans (24–60 months) at low APR through Tabeo, our finance partner. Treatment plans over £1,000 qualify. The application is paperless and takes around five minutes. You can run a soft credit check before committing — this won’t affect your credit score.

What happens at the consultation?

A 45–60 minute appointment with Dr Edward Walmsley. We take intraoral photographs and assess your bite, gum health, remaining teeth and the area where you’re missing a tooth. You’ll leave with a clear treatment plan and answers to all your questions. The implant consultation is £50 and is fully redeemable against any treatment you proceed with. If we agree to move forward, the next step is a CBCT (3D) scan to plan exact implant placement before any clinical work begins.

Do you place same-day implants?

For straightforward cases with adequate bone, we can sometimes place an implant immediately after extracting the tooth, with a temporary crown the same day. This is decided case-by-case based on bone quality and whether the extraction site is infected. We’ll tell you whether you’re a candidate at consultation.

FAQs

What is a dental implant?

We can use dental implants to replace single missing or damaged teeth. They are formed of a metal screw that is implanted into the jawbone to act as the new tooth root and a prosthetic tooth/porcelain crown that is secured on top of it.

Why do I need a dental implant?

We have a range of options available to patients with missing or severely damaged teeth, and where applicable and suitable, we always recommend replacement. Living with a missing tooth can damage a patient’s confidence, make it difficult to eat and talk, and cause a range of oral health issues.

These include other teeth moving to fill the gap, an increased risk of tooth decay, and bone loss to the jaw.

Why choose dental implants?

Dental implants offer patients the most natural and realistic option when replacing a tooth. Not only do they perfectly mimic the natural tooth, but the application of the titanium screw ensures they are completely secure and stable in the mouth and do not pose any danger of slippage.

They are also very easy to take care of and can be treated just as your natural teeth are with brushing twice a day for two minutes, frequent flossing, and regular visits to the dentist and dental hygienist.

What is the treatment process like?

Dental implant placement can take a few months and requires several separate appointments. At the first appointment, we’ll take X-rays and CBCT scans to ensure you’re a suitable candidate for implant treatment. The placement requires enough healthy jawbone to be present, and if not, we may have to choose an alternative treatment or recommend treatment to tackle the issue. This could mean a sinus lift or bone graft treatment.

Once you are good to go ahead with the treatment, the next step is to place the titanium implant. This is done under anaesthetic, so you’re comfortable throughout, and it will be carried out by an implant surgeon. You’ll then have to wait a month or two while the implant and jawbone successfully fuse together – we’ll be able to provide you with a temporary tooth during this time.

Next, you’ll come back into the practice, and we’ll fit you for your personal porcelain crown/prosthetic tooth.
