What is teeth whitening?

This cosmetic dentistry treatment uses a bleaching agent – usually hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide – to penetrate the tooth enamel and break down discoloured molecules. This then leaves the teeth looking whiter and your smile much brighter.

What happens during the treatment?

At Walmsley Dental, we’ve chosen to work with WhiteWash teeth whitening, which is a home-based treatment. This means the treatment will be safely carried out under our outstanding supervision, with you whitening your teeth in the comfort of your own home and in your own time.

We’ll first get you fitted for your gel trays, and then you’ll be able to use them at home with either a day or night formula.

How long does the treatment take?

Most home-based teeth whitening treatments take up to two weeks to produce results.

How often do I have to wear my trays?

You should wear your trays every day for 1-2 hours or overnight every night in order to produce the results you’re looking for in the shortest amount of time possible.

Will it hurt?

Teeth whitening shouldn’t be painful – especially when done under the supervision of a professional. WhiteWash uses a higher fluoride content to help reduce any sensitivity for the patient, as well as aloe vera to make the experience extra comfortable.

Is it safe?

All dentist-approved teeth whitening products are completely safe to use. There are other teeth whitening products available on the market, but unless they carry a dentist’s approval, their safety and efficacy cannot be assured.

Will the treatment damage my tooth enamel?

Any teeth whitening treatment that has been approved by professionals and is carried out under a dentist’s supervision will be completely safe and pose no danger to the enamel of your teeth.

Can restorations, veneers, and composite bonding be treated?

Unfortunately, restorations such as crowns, veneers, and composite bonding do not respond to teeth whitening treatments. If you are considering any of these cosmetic or restorative treatments as well as teeth whitening, then we should first carry out the teeth whitening, so that the restoration and cosmetic treatment can be accurately shade-matched.

Are there any foods I should avoid while doing the treatment?

We recommend avoiding acidic foods while doing the treatment, as your teeth will be more sensitive to them. You should also try to avoid or really cut down on your intake of food and beverages that are known to stain the teeth. These include tea, coffee, red wine, coloured sports drinks, and heavily coloured foods.

How much whiter will my teeth be?

The outcome of your treatment will vary depending on the shade of your teeth beforehand, as well as on genetics and lifestyle.

How long will the results last?

Most teeth whitening treatments produce results that last up to six months. To maintain your result, you may wish to “top-up” by whitening for a few nights every six months – if this is something you’re interested in, make sure to discuss it with your team here first.

My first time visiting this practice, as I am new to the area. Dee welcomed me with a big smile, was very professional and patient with me, and is very knowledgeable.For me personally I did not like the loud radio in reception, as this exacerbated my anxiety whilst waiting. I was also surprised that treatment deposits are required, perhaps this is normal for Manchester.However my main criteria was that I saw a kind and professional dentist, and this was certainly met, so happy to give five stars.

Not a fan of dentists in general so took some time to look for the right place. My first visit was to fix a root canal which was a bit infected. Great advice, really quick turnaround and very happy with the result.So much so I decided to finally get braces. Really great experience with Dr Emma and her team. Always detailed explanation on the process, what to expect and upcoming steps. Really good results as well. Everyone is really friendly and kind, always get appointment reminders and all the necessary documentation and instructions so communication is very good. Would 100% recommend!

I have been attending this dental practice since it's opening in 1984 under the wonderful Steve Walmsley, who has now retired. I have always had excellent treatment from both Steve and his very capable nurses and receptionists (got to mention Carol & Lauren) Since the refurbishments, which are great, I have been assigned a new dentist Depak who is excellent, so kind & caring, explains everything so thoroughly and answers all my queries with utmost competence. Both Steve and I have been with this practice for a while now and find them very welcoming.Personally, I have had issues with anxiety due to my fear of the dentist, but Hannah has always made me feel calm. I am a very anxious patient and I'm petrified of the dentist. I had a few teeth composite bonded by Ed and the dental nurse keeley, they are both so nice and understanding. He takes his time with me which is so important when you get so anxious at the dentist. The composites look great and I didn't feel any pain. The receptionist lauren is lovely and chats with the patients which is nice. Brioni books you in and she's lovely too. I had a hygiene clean with verity today, I was that scared I nearly cancelled my appointment. She took her time, made me comfortable and kept checking how I was, which helped calm my nerves. In my initial telephone call to the practice to book an appointment, the Receptionist was absolutely lovely, I then attended my first appointment with Dr Edward Walmsley, Edward put my mind at ease straight away, I had all of the initial checks on my teeth, he then explained everything in such detail that would happen on my teeth straightening journey, he also took the time out with me being a new patient to explain a bit about his background and all about the Family practice, which made me feel absolutely confident that I had made the right decision to become a patient of his. Since that day, all of my appointments to see Edward and Keeley (his amazing assistant) have been a pleasure. I cannot recommend Walmsley Dental enough, they are an amazing team, from my first experience that day, the welcome at every appointment, the lovely relaxing waiting rooms, the friendly and positive attitude from all of the team. From my initial appointment I have received the best care and advice from everyone at the practise. Dr. Walmsley understood what I wanted and gave me a clear process of what I needed to get my teeth and oral hygiene to what it should be. Absolutely the best dentist around! 100 % worth the miles travelled over the pat 6 months .I got recommended Ed and Emma by a friend as I hadn't been confident to follow up treatment with other dentists . They both reassured me of the treatment plan, even contacting a professor for the best course of action moving forward.The results have been amazing , I am so happy with my smile now and only wish now I had been to them sooner . The whole process was so professional and Keeley was excellent at making me appointments to fit around my work schedule and travelling from Sheffield . Thank you so much, you were all a lovely team to meet.

Having not visited the dentist for many years, I was extremely nervous. Eva and her assistant made me feel comfortable and at ease. She explained everything to me and showed no judgement. I have now had 9 teeth out with Eva and can honestly say I have had no post extraction problems. My dentures will be ready for xmas. I cannot thank Eva enough for restoring my confidence. You are amazing Eva and thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Went for my first appointment and saw Dr Hannah. She was brilliant! I am usually really nervous at the dentist but Hannah made me feel really comfortable and put me at ease straight away. She was professional and approachable. The dental surgery was really nice and all the staff there were lovely. Happy to have found a dentist I will stick with.

Don’t usually leave a review but was really happy with the quality of service from Edward. I don’t love going to the dentist but made me feel at ease instantly and explained everything to me. Usually find dentists speak in a different language and don’t explain things to you but he did it perfectly. I couldn’t fault my experience

Recently I had 6 teeth out and had a full Denture fitted Emma was brilliant as I am absolutely terrified of going only down side I had to go Private as they are not taking NHS patients on at moment think I will be staying with them .

Visited on the 24th April for a checkup, I was seen by Eva and Megan and they instantly made me feel comfortable and at ease especially considering the dentist is a stress-inducing place. They were knowlegable and answered my queries and made me laugh, such lovely ladies, will definitly feel less anxious the next time i visit after this encounter !

I've had a great experience as a patient here so far. All the staff were friendly and there's been no unreasonably long wait times. Special thanks to the dentist looking after me (Eva) who is great at explaining dental concerns, treatment options and following through with referrals, call backs and etc.

We been using this dentist over 15 yrs now n ad no problems, the staff r lovley n friendly. Only problems do av is if u want school hols its not always easy.
