Also known as ‘lingual braces’, hidden braces are fixed to the back of the teeth. With a specially designed low profile, hidden braces sit snugly on the back of the teeth, hugging the surface and ensuring they’re as subtle and hidden as possible.
Offering a completely bespoke experience, hidden braces are crafted for each individual patient, and the archwires are precisely programmed to help maximise movement.
Treatment time will differ for each patient, according to their individual needs and where their teeth are positioned at the start of the treatment. Most patients wear hidden braces for 15-28 months.
Like other forms of fixed braces, lingual braces can cause some discomfort when they are first applied and when the archwires are tightened due to the pressure that is necessarily being applied to the teeth.
As with other fixed braces, you’ll have to avoid certain foods that might cause damage to the braces. This includes particularly hard, crunchy, chewy, or sticky foods.
In order to keep your oral health in good condition and avoid tooth decay, you will have to clean carefully between the brackets and archwires with a special brush. It is also advisable to brush your teeth more often than normal in order to maintain a good standard of oral health.
We always recommend retainers once orthodontic treatment is completed. This is to stop the teeth from moving back to their original positions and to help you maintain your new, straighter smile.
