We recommend bringing children in for their first dental check-up when their first tooth erupts.
For a lifetime of great oral health, we know how important children’s dentistry is in establishing a happy, healthy foundation.
At Walmsley Dental, our team is dedicated to and passionate about providing children’s dentistry in our community. Ensuring a child’s oral health is in good condition from a young age can help prevent decay, disease, and infection from occurring and can help prevent the need for intervention or restorative treatments later on in life.
FAQs
What age should I first bring my child to the dentist?
How often should children visit the dentist for check-ups?
Children should have check-ups at least twice a year, although we may recommend more frequent visits depending on their own unique needs and oral health. These regular visits will help us keep an eye on the progress of their teeth at this very important stage of growth, as well as help us prevent tooth decay from occurring.
If decay does appear to be present, with regular visits, we’ll be able to catch it early and provide the most minimally-invasive treatment possible.
Why is it so important for children to visit the dentist?
At this early stage, children’s teeth and oral health can change rapidly, and they are particularly susceptible to tooth decay and other issues. With regular visits, we can help keep an eye on the progress of their teeth from baby teeth to adult teeth and offer advice when and if we think orthodontic treatment might be necessary.
What kind of treatments do you provide for children?
During a check-up, we’ll examine the patient’s overall health, providing a health screening and offering advice on at-home care and how best to prevent tooth decay and gum disease. If necessary, we’ll also be able to provide treatments such as fissure sealants, fillings, and fluoride treatments, all of which are fairly common among younger patients.
